Ourém

In a dominant position from the medieval village and the ribeira of Seiça, the Castle of Ourém is considered one of the most beautiful Portuguese castles. Although the information concerning the primitive human occupation are scarce, its particular localization and characteristics (around a water source) take the scholars to believe that if it has developed since pre-history, successively occupied by Romans, Visigoths and Muslims. These last ones have raised a stronghold that later was conquered by the Christians.
